A simple design takes between 3 and 5 minutes. More elaborate designs can take up to 10 minutes. A professional face painter can typically see around 10–15 children per hour depending on the complexity of the designs.

From around 2–3 years old, when children can sit still for a couple of minutes. It is not recommended for babies under 2 years due to skin sensitivity.
